The Triplicane Cultural Academy has been catering to the intellectual needs of Chennai for more than six decades through organizing talks by eminent national figures on socially meaningful subjects. The Academy`s activities all these years have covered a wide range of subjects-Politics, Economics, Public Administration, Music, Dance, Drama, Religion, Literature, providing an opportunity to develop a dispassionate approach to the problems facing the country eschewing narrowness of outlook.  Views expressed in this forum have many a time helped to contribute thought and action in the area of public policy.

To sum up the Academy has been reckoned as a shining star not only in the city of Chennai but the entire country.

The Kasturi Srinivasan Library

In consonance with one of its objectives in encouraging the reading habit and spreading knowledge, a library dedicated to the memory of late Sri.Kasturi Srinivasan, former editor of “The Hindu “ has been functioning as a wing of the Academy for more than five decades.

The library with its excellent collection of more than 30000 books on a variety of subjects from humanities to popular fiction, including rare books is really a veritable unique resource center for Indian Studies. Its popularity is borne out by the fact that its

readership is not confined to this locality but extends to other parts of this great city as well. It is worth mentioning that women and children constitute more than 50% of the Academy`s membership. Authors and Research Scholars searching for source material and students preparing for competitive examinations find the library a treasure trove.

Reading room facility with leading newspapers and popular magazines open to non members also forms part of the Library.

Further Expansion

It is our earnest desire to develop the library further so as to make it one of the leading institutions in the city by increasing the working hours, Computerizing all its functions, a preparing comprehensive catalogue and expanding the children`s section.  Housed in a rented premises it is sustained by a moderate subscription from members and donations from well wishers. We are equally eager to enlarge the activities of the Academy in other spheres also. With the limited resources at our command and ever increasing expenses on all items it could not make much progress. For realizing our objective we require a substantial corpus. Acquiring a building of our own with a built- up area of 2000sq ft. would help us in  achieving our aspirations.
