About Triplicane Cultural Academy
For over six decades, the Triplicane Cultural Academy has been catering to the intellectual and cultural aspirations of Chennai by organizing thought-provoking programmes and lectures by eminent national figures. These engagements have consistently addressed socially relevant themes and encouraged meaningful dialogue.
The Academy’s activities span a wide spectrum of disciplines, including Politics, Economics, Public Administration, Music, Dance, Drama, Religion, and Literature. Through these initiatives, it has fostered a balanced and informed perspective, helping audiences approach contemporary challenges with depth, openness, and clarity—free from narrow or sectional viewpoints.
The discussions and ideas generated within this forum have, on many occasions, contributed to thought and action in the realm of public policy. Today, the Academy stands as a distinguished institution—recognized not only in Chennai but across the country as a beacon of cultural and intellectual enrichment.
The Kasturi Srinivasan Library
In alignment with its objective of encouraging reading and the dissemination of knowledge, the Academy established a library in memory of Sri Kasturi Srinivasan, former Editor of The Hindu. For over five decades, this library has functioned as an integral wing of the Academy.
With a rich collection of over 30,000 books spanning diverse subjects—from the humanities to popular fiction, including rare volumes—the library stands as a valuable resource centre for Indian studies. Its appeal extends beyond the local community, attracting readers from across the city.
The library serves a wide and diverse readership. Notably, women and children constitute more than 50% of its membership. It is also a vital resource for authors, research scholars, and students preparing for competitive examinations, offering a treasure trove of reference material and knowledge.
Reading Room
The Library also features a well-equipped reading room with access to leading newspapers and popular magazines. This facility is open not only to members but also to the general public, encouraging wider community engagement and reading habits.
Further Expansion
The Academy is committed to developing the library into one of the leading knowledge institutions in the city. Planned initiatives include extending working hours, computerizing all operations, preparing a comprehensive catalogue, and expanding the children’s section
At present, the library functions from rented premises and is sustained through modest member subscriptions and generous contributions from well-wishers. However, with limited resources and steadily increasing operational costs, progress has been constrained.
With the continued support of patrons and well-wishers, the Academy aims to strengthen its contributions to cultural and intellectual life while expanding its reach to future generations.
